History

Who would have thought that a small group of like-minded individuals who gathered for a run on a Saturday morning in Hyde Park could develop into a hugely successful gay and lesbian running club with over 220 members in 2008.

London Frontrunners is part of a world-wide network of gay and lesbian “Frontrunners” running and walking clubs. The name “Frontrunners” was inspired by Patricia Nell Warren's novel The Front Runner, a story about the relationship between an ex-Marine track coach and his Olympic athlete training for the 1976 Olympic Games.

An increasing number of London Frontrunners are successfully competing in races internationally, in the U.K and around London. Our club has built up a strong reputation amongst the running community in the South of England, in road racing, cross country events and over the fells. London Frontrunners also organises its own annual 10 kilometre race. The 4th London Pride Run held in August last year attracted approximately 400 runners and we hope to increase the number this year in its 5th anniversary.
